The tears coursed down his dark cheeks as he tenderly embraced his bride. The long awaited day had finally arrived. After four and a half years of waiting. Hoping. Praying. And waiting some more, it was hard to fathom, this was their wedding day! They wept as they hugged and gazed into each other’s eyes. Happy happy tears. And I ugly cried behind my camera, barely able to see what I was doing. A host of people had been praying for this day to come including myself. I’ve known Sheila for years and even though we don’t see each other often, whenever we do, we can sit and talk for hours. So every so often throughout the past 4&1/2 years, we’d have a chance to catch up and my heart broke (and I gave up hope) sooo often that God was actually going to answer and allow Ronald to come to the states! But Ronald and Sheila did not give up. They continued praying and fighting their way through. Sheila would go down to Haiti every few months (sometimes longer) to see her fiancé with hopes that this would be the time he would be coming home with her. But over and over again, it was a no. It makes me cry all over again just thinking of the crushing sadness and the tearing inside that happened every time they had to say goodbye once more with no idea when the next time they could see each other would be. Jeff (Sheila’s dear daddy) worked tirelessly on paperwork and on the phone with the embassy trying desperately to get everything figured out and make his little girl’s dream come true! February of 2019, they had their first wedding date set for. Due to the rioting and chaos going on in Haiti over that time, the wedding go delayed for another month, March. Again it got cancelled and this time with no future time or date set. They were focusing on just getting Ronald to the states first and then the wedding would happen. A year later, February 11, 2020, the BIG day everyone was praying, hoping and waiting for arrived and Ronald flew to the states!!! Wedding planning was once more in full swing and they still planned to have it in Haiti in June. Long story short, COVID-19 pandemic hit and messed up the plans yet again! Twenty three days before their wedding date of June 20, they made the hard decision to change the wedding location to the states. Talk about massive change of plans and soooo many details to pull together in those very short 23 days!! But they did it!!! And was it EVER BEAUTIFUL!!
As I saw Sheila walking up to meet her groom for their first look (in her wedding dress that had hung in her closet for the past year and a half) I couldn’t stop the tears from coming. They shared the sweetest, most emotional, meaningful first look ever!! Ronald didn’t want to let Sheila go and I don’t blame him. The longer and harder we wait and fight for something, the more it means to us, and that describes how Ronald and Sheila felt towards each other all day long. 🙂 I could hardly stop with their portraits either cause they’re basically models and soooo cute together!! Ronald’s suit had just arrived from Haiti that morning so they had that stress on them to! 😉 But wow was it worth waiting for and I’m so so glad it made it on time cause he looked so good in it! Sheila was an absolutely gorgeous bride as well and her beautiful eyes shone!! 🙂 The bridal party was a blast and knowing most of them fairly well made it even more fun for me to photograph!! 😉
Ronald and Sheila had a sweet tiny ceremony at a small church close to Sheila’s house with mostly just family present to celebrate with them. The reception was absolutely beautiful with a white tent in their front yard! The string lights everywhere and candles and soft music made for a romantic vibe. I knew Sheila’s wedding would be gorgeous because she’s extremely talented and pays so much attention to detail. I was 100% correct. 😉 I want to photograph your wedding over and over Ronald and Sheila!! 😉 The food was amazing and the soft ice cream along with their yummy cake was a perfect desert for the hot day!! They ended their perfect day with a little sparkler exit!! I couldn’t have loved their day more and I think Ronald and Sheila felt the same way. 🙂 I can’t stop thinking about all of it and marveling at how God worked it all out. It reminded me once more that God IS big enough. And I need to have more faith. And Believe that HE CAN.
Thank you Ronald and Sheila from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the honor of capturing THE MOST SPECIAL day of your life!!! It was completely amazing. I wish you God’s richest blessings on your marriage!
Love you guys, Kari
